This is the story of a nurse, who not only survived the sinking of the unsinkable Titanic, but also the collisions of its two sister ships Britannic and Olympic.
Violet Jessop was born in 1887 in the family of two Irish emigrants living in Argentina. When she was still a child, she was diagnosed with tuberculosis, but she managed to survive despite the doctors’ predictions.
Violet became a stewardess at the RMS Olympic in 1911. At that time she was 23 years old and she managed to survive the collision between Olympic and HMS Hawke. Less than a year after the accident Violet decided to board the RMS Titanic again as a stewardess. Shortly after the ship hit the infamous iceberg the woman was placed in a lifeboat along with other staff members. She was rescued by RMS Carpathia the morning after the sinking of Titanic. She also worked as a stewardess and a nurse for the British Red Cross – that’s how she found herself on HMHS Britannic. Although she was injured during the sinking of Britannic, she survived.
Violet was dubbed as “Miss Unsinkable” and died at the age of 84 in 1971 of a heart failure.
